Empties to Winn is a social enterprise created in 2006 with a simple proposition: provide a valuable service in exchange for our donors support. We provide scheduled, year-round pickups to your doorstep or business, collect your empties, and write you a tax receipt for the estimated value.

We started in a single Edmonton neighborhood and today we operate in over 375 neighborhoods in Edmonton, St Albert, Sherwood Park, Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, Leduc, Fort Saskatchewan, and Beaumont. We are proud to have over 13,000 contributors spanning across households, businesses, condos, and schools.

All proceeds support the Winnifred Stewart Association through which we provide support to 200 individuals with developmental disabilities to assist them to meet their potential and to have full lives in an inclusive, supportive community. WSA provides accommodation for 70 people through independent and supported living arrangements, including specialized homes for our individuals who have dementia or Alzheimer’s. WSA also provides a wide range of day programs, employment, and volunteer supports.

In the 2019 year-end budget, Winnifred Stewart Foundation, through Empties to Winn, predicts a revenue of $835,000 from the collection of empty beverage containers. Business costs required in the placement and collection of containers, such as vehicles, insurance, fuel, maintenance, salaries, collection stands and bags required to operate this Social Enterprise are projected at $533,000 in order to generate a net profit of $302,000. Profits from this Social Enterprise go to support the good works of the Winnifred Stewart Association.
